Office 2010 Support on Teamsite 6.1

We recently upgraded from Office 2003 to 2010.
We are able to upload Office 2010 (.docx & .xlsx) documents into Teamsite, but when we click on these documents a buch of junk characters are displayed in the VisualPreview. I did try to add the new formats in the MIME.type file ../iw-webd/config folder, but didn't seem to work.

We are still on Teamsite version 6.1.0 Build 33333, so has anyone faced this issue? Clearly being an old version it won't be compitable with these new MIME types, but has anyone else exprienced this behavior and is there a workaround around this?
