Deployment runs.. but fails.

So I have a custom .wft file and deploy script that I am testing.

The workflow takes TeamSite/OpenDeploy configs within the content store and deploys them to the filesystem.

I tested a few file deployments with no issue however when I added three directories, the deployment called rollback without any true reason (that I can see).

Attached are the OD log files.

Very strange.

Is it repeatable?

Have you verified the disk space free percentage on the target location?

The process is repeatable.

Any time it tries to deploy a directory, it fails.

Are there any iwnew, iwold or iwtmp files ? How about directory with files in it ? It is possible you have found a bug. Been known to happen

Also is there a DNR that runs ?

Is OpenDeploy running as root?

I had recently run into a deployment issue when I was trying to set the file permissions on the target when OD wasn't running as root. It made me wonder if maybe OD wasn't able to create the new directories.

Produces nothing from /interwoven/TeamSite or /interwoven/OpenDeploy.

I've attempted with directories that are new, already existing with no files, already existing with files.

Everything such as the filelist and deploy paths are populated correctly but it just fails to deploy.

No DNR. I might attempt to open a ticket with HP and get back.

It is running as iwts however much/most of our filesystem's ownership has been converted to iwts long ago.

When you say that OD is not running as root - you mean the service itself - right?

I notice that in the deployment config you have:

You cannot do that if you are running OD as non-root - you have to use the special coding of:

Try changing that and see if your deployment works.

I did try the iwod group/user and the directories still fail.

I have opened up a ticket with HP support to work through the issue.

For now I have created a workaround for pre-existing directories in the deploy script.

During the creation of the filelist each of the "files" are checked to see if they are a directory or a file. If they're a file, add it to the filelist. If they're a directory, recursively find all the files and add that list to the filelist. Therefore even when adding a top level directory, only files will listed.

Okay so here are my findings.

HP Support told me that in order to deploy directories, I should move to a areaDiff deploy or something similar vs attempting a filelist deployment. Then a coworker and I laughed, and figured this was probably a permissions issue, thank you GoingMyWay and Ghoti.

Then I decided to do some testing with my "workaround" version of the deploy script... and I found out something interesting. During the filelist deployment, if you attempt to include a directory, it will create the /path/to/newdir{.iwold|.iwnew|.iwtmp} and then Voilà, horrific non-erroring catastrophy!

My script essentially checks the files that were included via $task->GetFiles(); and if the "file" is truly a file then add it to the filelist and move on. If the "file" is really a directory, don't attempt to add the directory itself but recursively find all the true files below it and add those, again, leaving out directories.

Upon deployment, because the directory does not yet exist, it will attempt to create the full path and then really Voila!

The only thing that I don't really like about this "solution", which is still up in the air for me, is that even though the directory is "deployed" or created, OpenDeploy doesn't track that creation as a directory deployed:
