Visual Format in 7.3.1

Hi,

We just upgraded to TeamSite 7.3.1 from 6.7.2 SP1. We had visual format as external editor in quite a few templates earlier but now with upgrade it looks like Visual format is no longer is installed with 7.3.1. Does that mean it is no longer supported? Is there is any particular reason why they don't ship it any more?. Nothing specific in the release notes.

I know we can install it from the Ektron site but wanted to know if this is the good time to move to tinyMCE.
Please share your approach/thoughts.

From the release notes:

Text editor support. As of TeamSite 7.2.1, TeamSite only includes the
TinyMCE rich text editor.

So it looks like Visual Format is not included in 7.2.1 and above. It would be a good time to go with TinyMCE!

Because it had platform and/or browser dependencies in it, and required a client-side installation - and it was one more 3rd party piece that often ran into issues because they couldn't keep in sync with the releases?

Unfortunately - if I recall - VFE (or the version that used to ship with the product) supported a few more languages / locales than TinyMCE (or the version that used to ship with the product) - hopefully TinyMCE was upgraded in the latest release and doesn't suffer from that issue anymore (haven't checked - not an issue for me right now)

It's not that I ever liked ektron, but for my client it means extra thousands and thousands of dollars wasted as all templates that do not use TinyMCE will need to be regression tested (and reconfigured as many screens had their own customized Ektron configs)

Won't help, especially when many clients think of ditching this product that is becoming crappier and crappier

You are quite right, the company has provided some steady income for many of us Smiley Happy

But I'd go with some more minor issues in general, there are plenty Smiley Happy
