Datum Label

Hi everyone,

I just wanted to know if the Datum Label can be localized?
For example, i have two sites:

In my component, i want to localize the Datum label depending on the site i am. For example,

when editing a component in a page, the label should display "Please enter a value" in the "en" site.

The same thing in the fr site should be displayed as "Veuiller entrer une valeur".

Is this possible?

Unfortunately no. I work with a few clients that have strongly requested this feature, and last I heard it was a distant item on HP's roadmap. Fingers crossed that it might be included in TS8.x. If it's a high value item for your company as well, I'd suggest you mention your interest in such a feature to HP support.

Okay.. Thank you for your reply. However, i would like to hear your opinion on this idea.
Could a resource file(properties file) be loaded from the "Content" section whereby the key is applied to the Label property of the Datum?

However, loading the resource file can be done through a Java external, but the question remains how to pass the value to the label.

This is just a thinking. I do not know what i am saying is feasible or completely out the world.

No. That's exactly the feature we requested -- to be able to source labels from a resource bundle, like they allow in the targeting piece.

The labels for datums simply cannot be dynamically altered. What you load in an external only provides data to the rendering of that component; it cannot affect the content entry portion. Generator classes affect the content entry (options in dropdown datums) but again, cannot alter the labels or any other datums.

Trust me, I've asked this question point blank to an HP engineer. The product simply does not support it at this time.

There must be a way to do this via unsupported hack, but it would be a very involved hack and I haven't spent any time looking into it because the cost/benefit isn't there for us.

Okay, thank you for the explanation rpoulin. I hope that this feature comes in the future releases of Teamsite/Livesite.

I leave this thread as open, maybe someone else could express their opinions.

Don't just hope. If your organization wants this, make sure you make yourself heard with your HP rep and/or support.
