Changing component type from HTML to XSL

Is there a way to change a component type from HTML to XSL?

Side question...

If I delete that HTML component and recreate it as an XSL component what happens to all the templates/pages that have references to the old component?

I could (would rather not) create a new component with a new name and replace it everywhere, but this component is everywhere. At least most pages use templates so I can update the template and do a mass update.

You'd have to hack the component XML, but it can be done (unsupported).

Haven't tried it, but the rendering engine is an attribute of an XML node in the component definition, so in theory updated pages should recognize the change in engine at the same time as it recognizes your rendering code change, meaning it should work fine.
