Page Layout XML

Does anyone have any examples/information/documentation on the available tags and attributes for page layout files?

Autonomy-Interwoven apparently doesn't ("Engineering is having trouble locating any information on this.")

you best bet is start with one of the existing page layouts.

Typically I agree, but in this case I'm asking:
WHAT DO THE ATTRIBUTES DO?
What ATTRIBUTES ARE AVAILABLE ON WHICH TAGS?
WHAT TAGS CAN BE NESTED?

You would think that these are simple questions. Apparently not because NO ONE can answer them.

I've been referred to chapter 10 of the developers guide - that's the worst piece of #$%^&* I've ever read in a manual.

Apparently there is no DTD or any definition file for this. I'm hoping someone has an internal document that they've created.
