PLC Custom Deployment Descriptors

I see we have custom deployments for datadeploy:

com.interwoven.livesite.opendeploy.impl.DataDeploymentDescriptor

Can we use a normal OD deployment here as well ? Like to send static assets to Apache instead of using a separate process ?

Also, can you kick this off from the development deployment from PLC ? I am assuming not because it doesn't deploy LSDS.

OK, found this in the SP Developers manual.

Appendix F, you can have OD deployments as well as DD Deployments.
