Preview not previewing correctly

I took the page layout from the developers guide (pages 154 & 155) and after correcting a mistake in the example I created a page.

The page edits okay,
The page looks okay on our web servers
But in preview none of the automatically generated DIVs are created for the rows, columns or areas.

So instead of the page having three columns, they are stacked on top of each other.

Any clue?

P.S. This only happens on our testing TeamSite server, which I rebooted during lunch. The same code appears correctly on our production TS box.

Different issue.

I've narrowed it down to - changes to the page layout files are not being reflected in Preview. I have a working page layout that I made a change that is not being seen and new templates are not being seen either.

Notes:
I have rebooted the server.
I'm also seeing .css files in the iwov_resources folder that I don't remember being there previously.

Is it only Teamsite preview where changes are not working properly or on web servers as well (Same page)?
What change did you make in the page layout which is not reflected? Can you share specific example?

Also you mentioned in the beginning that the layout chnages were reflected correctly in Teamsite Production but not in Teamsite Dev server. Is it still true?

It appears that any changes made to layouts are not reflected in Preview NOR on the production server. The .xml files are being deployed but not being picked up.

I have a test page that is displaying 'old' formatting in production.

When I inspect an element on the production server (when the page displays properly) DOM tree has:

It's like the page generator is not finding the page layout.

Keep in mind that when I edit the page it looks good and sees my changes to the page-layout immediately. (like changing the width of the areas from 260 to 160).

OK, i checked your layout in my environment and it works perfectly fine. All the columns appear side by side. So the problem seems to be environment specific and not code or layout specific. Can you check if username and password required to access IIS site are correct?

(Keep in mind that when we push to our web servers [Linux] the same thing is happening - we don't see any of our changes.)

No passwords required.

My guess is there's a database corruption somewhere, but I'm no expert there.

I was asking for username and password required at IIS level for Anonymous access becuase if the credentials are not correct it can create these kinds of problem. But the problem appears in your run time envrionment as well, so we might have to rule out this one

You mentioned that layout looks fine in Edit mode. Can you inspect the page via Firebug in Edit Mode and confirm if those divs and classes are loading in Edit mode.

Also does it work in your Teamsite Production Environment and production run time environment (Assuming you are working on Teamsite Test/Dev system)?

One more thing: What happens if you make inline-css: true Does it impact the layout?

i dont have any specific answer to your problem but can try to reduce down the scope of the solution.

its really a weird problem and i think contactin support team might be best possible option here.
Also do OOTB fixed layouts work in your Test environment. If no, i would surely open a case with Support.

The OOTB 3-column-fixed layout does the same thing.

It appears that whatever the process to pick up new/changed templates is not working.

I have opened a case, now I wait for a month before anyone contacts me.

Not sure if you got this resolved, we have the same (or at least similar) problem.

It seems to me to be a bug in their build script that doesn't deploy the files to the correct location for preview (edit appears to get deployed correctly).

To get around it I have to manually copy the layout XSL to the following folder:

{iw-home}\ApplicationContainer\server\default\deploy\iw-preview.war\WEB-INF\classes\com\interwoven\xsl\runtime

In our case we use fixed-layout.page.xsl as our template.

Hope this helps.

Update: Note - replacing these files should be visible immediately - don't need to run make_toolkit or build.

This was resolved by opening a ticket with support (Case # 1015566)

Problem:

changes to page-layout files are not being picked up in preview

Solution:

Interwoven/ApplicationContainer/server/default/deploy/iw.preview/WEB-INF/conf/livesite_customer/pagetype-config/xml

Noticed this file had been modified around the time the issue began.

commented out "htmlquirksmode" pagetype (this was the page type in index.page file xml)and ran iwreset -ui to force it to use default.

This corrected the issue.
