Unable to update Email property for few users

Hi,

I'm trying to set email for few users using below clt command.

./iwuseradm set-email domain\username <email>

but it is failing with the below error
ERROR:02445: Attribute is not modifiable

I noticed the tsusers.xml file do not have an email element for these users, not sure why.

I went ahead and added them manually which is now showing in the Admin UI, but still not allowing me update it either via UI or the CLT.

Has anyone faced this problem?

Hi Pawan,

Is the user an AD user? If yes then the email id attribute is not modifiable because it is automatically pulled from the AD. In this case, the email id value that's used is the value that is stored in Active Directory. You would have to change the email id in AD in order for it to be updated in TS.

If I'm not mistaken, Kalam's comment only applies if you're connecting to your directory services via the user_databases.xml. If you're using "native" OS-to-AD connections, you absolutely should be able to set emails in TeamSite because they won't be getting pulled from AD.

That said, the error you're getting does fit with Kalam's statement. Not being able to modify an attribute is usually evidence of it being sourced from elsewhere, although it could also mean that your entity DB is broken.

Either way, I think you need to clarify how your authentication is set up.

Hi Kalam,

Yes, these users are in AD. When I added them in Teamsite, the email value was blank textbox in the UI. Now when I try to update the email by editing the user from Admin UI and save it, it doesn't throw any error but doesn't update the email.

I will have to check with the AD team about how the email is setup for these users.

Yes, I have configured the ldap in user_databases.xml file. The entity DB is fine, I just checked for these users.

When I execute this command

./iwuseradm.exe modifiable-attributes-by-user domain\username

is-master
preferred-ui

I do not see email attribute at all and it is not present in the tsusers.xml file as well for these users.

Is there a reason why you needed to configure this over LDAP rather than using the native OS / domain controller functionality?

I have got users from two domains which are configured in user_databases.xml

For the one domain, all is fine but not for the other.

Are you saying that you're in a WIndows environment with multiple domains and you couldn't figure out how to authenticate users against either/both domains without using user_databases.xml?

Did you look at the domain_list settings in (for Windows) IWHOME/etc/iw.cfg within the [iwcgi] and [iwserver] sections?

The former is for the UI dropdown on login, the latter is for the iwsever process to perform user lookup and authentication.

I am on windows and I have multiple domains configured in iw.cfg and the users from both the domains are able to login to Teamsite. The problem is users from one domain do not have their email address property value set and is not allowing me to set it either via Admin UI or using the CLT iwuseradm.

If you have user_databases.xml set up for the domains, it probably won't let you update the emails through the UI. I'd suggest removing those settings (commenting them out at least), running iwreset -ui, and then see if you can set the emails via the Admin UI and/or CLT.
