iwmigrate Windows 6.7.2 to Linux 7.3.2

We are planning to move our current TS installation from Windows to Linux and from 6.7.2. to 7.3.2.
The Windows version is a current live installation, the Linux one is a new one in development by an external developer.
The goal is for both to run in parallel on the same Linux installation.

From what I have read on this forum can I assume that use of iwmigrate is out of the question?

Also does anyone have any experience or suggested timescales for such a move. (BTW I have been upgrading TS on Windows since TS 4; but this is my first cross-platfrom move )

Good luck. You may want some help, depending on how familiar you are with the suite.

Yes iwmigrate is out of the question. The backingstore will not move over. OpenDeploy is all you can use.

How long ? I can do a simple site in a day. It could take months. It all depends.

How much data ? How many editions do you need ? Moving history will be painful and long.

How well do you know what customizations you have ? Can they easily be identified, like on a config branch ? How portable are they ? Do you have C:\interwoven\iw-home everywhere ?

Speaking of iw-home, interesting bit of trivia with TS 7, when you install, you provide the parent (like OD has always behaved) and it creates a TeamSite directory underneath. Sucks if you have \interwoven\iw-home hard coded everywhere. If you run an upgrade with iw-home as the main folder, it will install into the correct directory but not a new install.

Then you have to start thinking about cross platform issues, like case sensitivity of filenames and URLs. Hope you have a good way to check links because you will need to. Users as well will need to be remapped, though if you bring no history, migrate everything as tsadmin and start fresh.

I could go on, but this will be a decent start. FYI, when I bid an upgrade from 6.X to 7.X I plan on 8-12 weeks, depending on what I know about the system. The upgrade itself is not that long, but there are 100 things to find and fix.

Looks like we will a have to except losing most of our history.
The 8-12 weeks is shocking, but if I am honest to myself, one or two of the upgrades we did went way beyond this.

Make your boss understand this is much more than an upgrade, changing platforms, if you have not done things correctly, can be very ugly. I am planning an upgrade/replatform (DOS to DOS) of a 6.7 to 7.3 site I did several years ago. I have everything lined up (hopefully perfectly) and still think 2 months is tight. Of course you did not say how many environments you have to do, Dev & Prod ? Test ?

In terms of keeping the file version history (i.e. editions), you may consider keeping the old system around for a few months; grabbing any old files you need and individually migrating them across. It'll mean the migration now will happen much faster as you don't need to migrate editions.

I had recent experience of upgrading from 7.1 to 7.32 on RHEL, cc std view has given such a hard time that I/A support took 10 weeks to resolve the issue. If works works great else have to pray Smiley Happy

I'd like to hear more about this if you can still recall any details on how you approached this. I want to do the exact same thing.
