Filtering content by business unit

I notice in TeamSite that there is the ability to tag an asset (page, file, etc) by Bussines unit. I have 2 questions. Is there a way to customize the out of the box bussiness units and can one filter by content based on the bussiness unit that a gigen asset is tagged with.

You should be able to customize the tagging properties and their values. If you are talking about searching content based on the tagging information, I am not sure about that, but if you have it set as extended attribute set on the file then you should be able to filter the content.

Please always post your environment details like versions of TS, OS for better understanding of your question.

The version of TS is 7.2 but we are moving to 7.4. I believe the OS is Linux.

So where would we customize the tagging values?

Just to be clear I want publishers to be able to filter in the admin interface on content by Bussiness Unit.

Strictly speaking, that can't be done.

The first step is correct -- you want to customize the TagUI to be able to record the metadata on the files.

But in order to render it, you'll either have to

a) instruct your users to use the Search functionality to find files tagged with a particular business unit; or

b) create a custom interface that allows you to browse the repository by business unit

There is a UI customization guide where you cna add a custom JSP to the TeamSite interface. You would need ot do that.

And in addition to that guide, you'll no doubt need to use the CSSDK to interact with TeamSite from your JSP. You'll find the javadocs for that on your server in TeamSite/cssdk/docs/cssdk_doc.jar. There's a number of threads on these forums that discuss how to get started with that.
