Trigger a script via schedular , not as a cron job

Hello All,

I am on :

TS - 6.7.2
OD - 7.1
sunOS - 5.10

I have this requirement : to sync up the modified files between two TeamSite servers.
So I prepare a perl file which does it . I have tested this file by running it manually thru cmd prompt and the Sync up happens succesfully.

Now, I've got to trigger this script by a scheduler which runs by end of every week , but it sudn't be a cron job.

One thought to have as DnR, but still like to hear any ideas by which this can be implemented.

What is the actual requirement?
Based on "trigger script by end of every week" - cron job makes perfect sense.

The business doesn't want this script to be triggered via a cron job but only thru OD.

The requirement as mentioned in my post, all the modifcations to the pages done with in past week would need to be pushed to the lower TS server(dev box).

You've already mentioned DNR with OD Scheduler.

That's an approach we successfully use to run several scheduled tasks on Target Servers (auto synch,
local Application Cache reload, stuff like that). You can certainly do that on Base as well.

While this would work (as mentioned) - I'm still trying to understand the distinction between using the OpenDeploy scheduler to run an OpenDeploy process to run a DNR to perform the operation vs. using cron to run the script to perform the operation.

I could understand if you wanted to run this script after every deployment, or every deployment of a particular type.

I could understand it even more if you wanted to run this as an externaltask at the end of a workflow process.

I just don't understand why, if you (they) only want this run at the end of the week (assuming other deployments occur during the week), why you'd want to tie the process to OD as a DNR rather than as a cron job ... unless ... the data for the script to process is provided by the OpenDeploy manifest / in-memory log in terms of which files to process - then it would make perfect sense.
