Adding .Net controls to the .page

Hi,

In one of our requirement, we may have to use existing .Net controls in the newly developed livesite pages.

I read the TeamSite_7.4.1_SiteDeveloper_Rev0_en.pdf. In chapater 12, it is mentioned that we can add with ASPX markup.

I have very basic idea of .Net. We have a sepereate .Net team here. But, I need to understand how should I integrate this code in component code.

Appreciate if any one has sample code or pointer?

Hi All,

Just to add detail on this.

I need to understand the call to external (like .cs file) in .net component.

Our client is also wants to use livesite mobile component. So for me, it is necessary to create UI in appearance xsl and call the .net code (.cs files as external) in the backend.

I am not sure how to call the .net code in component.

Appreciate any pointer in this case.

Hi Amit,

For calling .NET code as an external in your component, you need to follow below mention steps-

1) Copy your dll file in bin folder.

2) Register your namespace assembly in Web.config file.

Eg. - If the namespace in .cs file is "livesite.external" then add the entry as mentioned below-

Namespace - com.livesite.external

DLL file name - livesite.external.dll

<pages>
<controls>
.......

<add tagPrefix="any name your want to provide"
namespace="com.livesite.external"
assembly="livesite.external" />

</controls>
</pages>

Note:- There should be only one entry for each namespace.

3) In components Content XML section call the external as mentioned below -

Namespace - com.livesite.external

Class name - TestDotNetExternal

Method Name - GetContent

<External>
    <Parameters>
      <!-- Same as you pass parameters in Java -->
    </Parameters>
    <Object Scope="local">com.livesite.external.TestDotNetExternal, com.livesite.external</Object>
    <Method>GetContent</Method>
  </External>

We are trying to create a very simple .net component as defined in the Sitepublisher guide on Page 261. We are creating a Label component with colour scheme.

The web.config file contains the following :-

We have created a HTML component with the following enteries in the component XML

and the below code in the Appearance :-

Request you to please let us know where we are going wrong.

Hi Chintz,

What kind of component you are using?

Please check it should be HTML component.

Try restarting IIS.

Also, can you please provide your component?

The component created is a HTML component.

We are not using any external.

We are proceeding as per the steps in the Sitepublisher Guide.

Component Appearance contains :-

Hi Chintz,

So far its good.

Did you restart IIS after copying the .ascx and .cs file?

Also, please check iw-preview.net log file. It will be under "Interwoven/TeamSite/local/logs/iwui" folder.

Thanks for the help. But still we have not got success. We have restarted the IIS server , also the log is not gettting created under \Interwoven\TeamSite\local\logs\iwui

Hi Chitz,

Can you please provide me the content_center.log and server.log after you preview the component.

Try one more thing, drop the component on page and then try to preview it. See, if log file gets created or not.

I saw some instances where preview of component didn't work.

Also, please check the entry in log4j.xml file for logging.

We ahve tried resetting the IIS server also added the component on the page. But still no success.

Hi Chintz,

It seems there are some permission issues on IIS.

Is this the fresh installation or you migrate the system? Which version of TS your are using.

Also, lets try below mention steps -

1) Set log level to "DEBUG" in log4j.xml file found under iw-preview.net/WEB-INF/classes folder. Reset TS and IIS.

2) Preview the page.

3) Provide me the iw-preview.net.log, server.log and content_center.log

4) Also, provide your web.config file from iw-preview.net folder.

5) Also, check the permissions on iw-preview application in IIS. Try adding permission to everyone.

I don't have .NET installation with me now, so cann't provide you the exact paths.

Note: Try creating page in component-guide branch and see if its working there. Also, do inspect element and see if HTML is coming up or not.

Hi Chintz,

Set the "Display Services application type" to "Microsoft application" in default.site file.

This will resolve the issue.

Could you please let us know how do we get the required dlls to be used by custom external?

Say the RequestContext object, dom4j , livesite specific dlls?

Basically, wanted to understand how to associate these dependent libraries to our custom external written in .net?
