Hello,

I have a Datasource being called from FormAPI that returns a map which is interpreted in the FormAPI and values are set to an item.

The issue is - if the map has semicolon, the values are not being read by Form API.

Any ideas why semicolon is not being read by Form API.

I have tried logging the map just before its retured to FormAPI and the values are perfectly displayed with the semicolon.

However, when i log them in FormAPI just in the callack method, it doesnt show up the values which has semicolon.

Form API -

Map result from JAVA-

If I dont have ® in any of the values, the Form API logs all the values correctly.

if I have ® in any of the values, then only the values below this logs. All the values above this doesnt display.

After doing some debugging I found that if I have &reg, then also it works fine. Just if I add the semicolon it breaks.

Just to let you know, these values are from Sitemap. Datasource reads the sitemap and send the map object. FormAPI reads the mapobject and displays in a select opion in the DCR.

Perhaps you already did this (if so, please provide details of tests), but if not...

Try with just a lone semi-colon (no entity specification)
If that works, try with an XML-defined entity (e.g.: &)
If that works, try with other non-XML-defined entities [of which ® is] - e.g.:   µ etc.

Basically - just try to narrow down the source of the problem:

Is it any semi-colon?
Is it any entity?
Is it any non-XML-defined entities?
Is it just ®?

I somehow doubt it's the last one - but it could easily be any of the first three.

Also, though it seems slim - are you sure that outputToConsole() isn't the source of the problem?

This is a datasource ? So you have a Perl script executing which dumps out XML ? Encluding embedded JS ?

Two points.

1. Don't embed JS, Put it in an external file (I use iw-home/httpd/iw/FormAPI) so it can be reused.

2. When you execure Perl it has special characters that have to properly be escapred. Usually happens to me with a $. Run your datasource form a command line and peruse the output. See if the change is happening there. Then you can fix or show exactly what happens.

I have tried out with only ; and it fails. It perfectly works for &reg. So the problem is with the ;. However I need it so that its populates as the registered trademark in the DCR.

I dont this outputtoconsloe is the issue as the alert also doesnt show up the value.

I did run the datasource standalone and it shows ®

i just did a escapehtml of the values of the map in the datasource before it returns to the FormAPI and then it showed up as &reg;

Still the Form API doesnt populate this value.

One more thing I notice, when I enter the node value as ® in the sitemap, it actually gets stored as &reg; when i edit the default.sitemap I just found this.

So Datasource is reading the node value as escaped sequence from the default.sitemap. However when it forms the map object it stores it as ®

unfortunately if i convert it back to &reg; before passing it to FormAPI, still FormAPI doesnt recognize.

i am not sure if i am missing out anything.

I think what might happen is the FormAPI wrapper around your datasource probably uses the semicolon as a value delimiter, and seeing it in content might be throwing it off. In your java, try string.replace(";","\\x3A") (which is the Javascript escape sequence for a semicolon) and see if that tricks it. Otherwise, you might have to replace them with another unused token (like a pipe or a tilde) in the Java and then replace it back in your FormAPI code.

I just tried the html entity escape and it didnt work out - value=value.replaceAll(";",";");

So we will replace ; with || in JAVA and replace || with ; in FormAPI.

I believe that Rick gave you the escape-sequence for semi-colon specifically to avoid the entity specification. For the entity specification you might need to use "&#x3b;" - though I haven't tried this so I have no idea whether it makes any difference.
