Outlook - problem intercepting worksite document if word is not already open

I would like to know how you would go about capturing the selected document in Outlook from Worksite. In normal cases you would use the document open event in your word addin.

However, I have an issue that if Word is not already loaded and the document is selected via Outlook we cannot capture any details about the selected document because effectively our addin loads too late as the outlook open occurs before. If word is already open - all is good.

Normally you would use something like this.Application.ProtectedViewWindowOpen event which is the open event of a document from outlook but Microsoft have confirmed that this is not working. So im looking for otherways to trap whats selected in this scenerio.
