remote_directory blank

Hi There,

I'm seeing some starnge issue in the OD-logs. The value of remote_directory is coming as blank only when we wre deploying a file out of one branch in our Teamsite server. The same deployment goes fine for other branches that are in parellel.

The error also says the receiver is not configured with allowed dectory path but we have done the entries already at receiver and have also restarted the OD services at there. Please provide inputs is remote_directory being blak is an issue?

You need to find a way to verify the parameters (-k key=value) being provided to the deployment against what the deployment configuration file is looking for ($key^) - that's the only reason I can think of for the target directory specification to be blank, and thus cause the deployment to fail in the way you describe.

Specifically, it looks like whatever value you expect to be passed in for "destarea" is either not what you think it is (typo in a variable being used for the value?) or the parameter is not being specified on the command line at all (typo or omission in parameters provided)

Hi Adam,

As I told earlier this deployment is driven by a workflow which works well for most of the branches in our work area and it is failing only while we deploy the files from this particular branch. Will you please confirm where can I check the paramemter which you advised. I checked the permsions of all the directories that are involved in deployment. I see all other things look good except this remote_directory value. Thanks for your time.

I don't know your workflow.

I don't know how your workflow is invoking the deployment.

Ergo - I cannot tell you how to find out what's going wrong.

You need to determine how your workflow is invoking the deployment.

Is it using an externaltask running a Perl script?
- If it's a Perl script - debugging it should be easy (for anyone who understands Perl)
Is it using a URL Externaltask running a Java program?
- If it's a Java program, is it using some OOTB class or a custom class?
  - If it's an OOTB class it may take some effort to debug it, though the problem could be in the WFT/WFM in terms of setting task level variables
  - If it's a custom class (and you've ruled out task level variable settings) it may take a bit more effort than a Perl script but it shouldn't be too difficult (for anyone who understands Java)
Is it something else?

Thanks for your time in going through this. I can collect the workflow details but I strongly believe there is something missing from the configuration end which we need to find out. This workflow is working good for most of the branches in TS so I would recommend we will first try to understand if we can fix the issue without seeing from workflow end. If you have idea on how to find out on why remote_directory is misssing, please advise.

I have already indicated how you should debug the process.

The problem is most likely on the workflow end somewhere - something that works on (or has been configured for) other branches that is not working (or not configured for) the particular branch where you are having issues.

But if you want to travel down a rabbit hole looking for something else, go right ahead - I'm not paying you...

It is not Teamsite specific. It is customized property file where we mention few parameters like environment details, doc root and different urls. some of the values were not correct and that was the reason for deployment failure.
