Hi everyone,

is it possible to access the tinymce object? For example, i want to initialise the tinymce in my DCT like this:

tinymce.init({
   mode: "textareas"
});

However, i am getting a js error. it says "tinymce is not defined".

can you all help me please.

You can't directly access tinymce.init() from a DCT. You'll need to try put that into $iwhome/httpd/iw/tinymce/config/custom_config.js using the TS specific syntax.

Edit: actually what exactly are you trying to do? I just looked at the regular tinyMCE documentation and it looks like the mode option just controls how elements are converted in to tinyMCE WYSIWYG fields. That should be controlled at the DCT level.

Actually i need to remove unwanted html and inline css when copying text from word or somewhere else. However, i see Teamsite is still using 3.12 TinyMCE version.

I have tried to load the tiny_mce_src.js file in my DCT. But when pasting, i get an js error something like this:

"dom.bind is undefined".

That's not how you customize tinyMCE in TS.

In the DCT you define the external-editor as tinymce and then you tell it what custom config to use:

then you make your customizations in $iwhome/httpd/iw/tinymce/config/custom_config.js referencing myCustomConfigID.

This is all documented in the Content Template Developer's Guide.

To solve your problem, why not just use the OOTB "Paste from Word" toolbar button?

Hi David,

Adding the custom config ID is fine with me. However, the point is that, whenever i paste from word, it should remove all the word related inline css styles, tags.

By default, when pasting from word, when viewing the html, we see something like this

<p><!--[if gte mso 9]><xml> <officeDocumentSettings> <o:RelyOnVML /> <o:AllowPNG /> </officeDocumentSettings> </xml><![endif]--></p>

The point is to remove all this and just to keep the simple text that the user wishes to copy without writing js code on form init or when saving.

As I already mentioned, why not just use the OOTB "Paste from Word" toolbar button? That will perform the cleanup that you're looking for.

With regard to what GoingMyWay asked -- are you (SameerBoodhoo) pasting directly into the textarea or are you already using the Paste From Word feature that comes with TinyMCE?

If you haven't tried the latter - please do so and let us know if it is doing what you need.

Yes, i tried from the Paste from word function. However, it does not seem to work. To be more clearer, suppose that in my word there is a text like this:

When i paste this text into the textarea or using the paste from word,

i should get simply:

this is a test from microsoft word.

That's only slightly clearer - because it looks like you want to take text that was marked as struck-out in Word and paste it into TinyMCE as if it was not struck out -- or did the forum code somehow mess up what you were trying to show us?

Are you trying to get rid of all formatting, or just some formatting (specifically MS markup)?

I'm not saying I can help you directly (personally, I find customizing TinyMCE in TeamSite beyond the basics to be a bit of "black magic" - I've had to create some custom plugins and it wasn't fun) - but hopefully I can get you to provide sufficient detail here such that someone else (more adept at "black magic") to help you.

Part of the problem (the "black magic") is that TeamSite puts its own interface around TinyMCE so that you cannot just look things up in the TinyMCE manuals and use the directives there as written - you have to "convert" that information into something that works with TeamSite's implementation. Usually it can be done, but it takes a while to ferret out the transformation of the instructions.

Also, it's been my experience that pasting content from Word is often a lose-lose situation and it's better if you can train the users to just compose the text in TinyMCE - or at least to paste unformatted text into TinyMCE and then format it within there; rather than trying to coerce Word's formatting into TinyMCE formatting. You can run into lots of problems with non-contiguous nested lists (among other things).

Usually I recommend that users first copy the content from word into a plain text editor like notepad to strip out any formatting. Then they can paste the "cleaned" content into Word. I've looked into trying to force tinyMCE to cleanup the code in the past, but the level of effort/complexity and dealing with the "black magic" proved to be too much so pasting from notepad was an acceptable solutuon.

On my last project, the "Paste from Word" satisfied the customer's requirements. The nice thing about "Paste from Word" is that it cleans up the Word specific CSS and formatting, but it retains some of the basic formatting that you likely want to keep. Things like bold, italics, hyperlinks, images, tables, strike-through, etc. If you had just pasted that into notepad then all of that formatting will be lost and you'll need to manually reapply everything.

I guess it depends on what exactly you're trying to do and how much time/money you have.

Isn't there a "paste as plain text" button in the toolbar? That's basically what you'd be looking to build anyway.

As someone who has rewritten the CTRL+V handler in TinyMCE v3.1.2 before, I would strongly recommend against going that route. The underlying library doesn't abstract the browser innards properly until v3.3+, so it's one of the worst headaches you'll ever encounter in all of iwov development. If that's the route you want to take, at least hold off until the tinymce upgrade that comes with TS7.5.
