Unique ID in DCT on forminit

Hi All,

Requirement is DCT having container in that one item should have unique id on form load/init and every time on replicant that item should have unique id filled, is there anyway to do this using Form API or any, please share any piece of code etc to do this.

I suggest you start on it and then ask again if you have issues with your code.

FormAPI does not provide any function specifically for generating a unique id value in any field. You would need to create custom code for doing so and use FormAPI (if necessary) for populating the value into the field.

So - come up with your own mechanism for creating a unique id (date/time, DB, whatever) and then try to figure out how to get that value into the field where you want it / when you want it there (verify with both new and edited forms).

If at that point, something isn't working - you can be more explicit about what it is you are doing / trying to do - and what is / is not happening.

If you're a reasonably competent software developer with a reasonable understanding of [at least] javascript - you should be able to knock this out in less than a day (probably less than an hour).

The individual pieces are easy. On a replicant add, run a function that generates a GUID and inserts it into a hidden field of the replicant. Would take me (or most people here) an hour, with coffee breaks. The JS function to generate a GUID is maybe 4 lines and you can search for it.

So either try it or tell your boss to hire someone who can.

Hi All,

I had created one DCT few months which generate the unique ID on form init and even when its replicated, but when I edit the DCR, it again create new unique ID which I donot want.

I think there some issue in my code, I have attached the DCT file code.

Please suggest thanks.

You should only be setting the imageFileId value if it's empty. Otherwise you will always overwrite the GUID whenever the form is loaded.

You should do your job.

Look up the FormAPI manual. If the DCR has a name (hint use IWDatacapture.getDCRPath () ) then do not run this

That being said. Do you allow users to make a copy (Save As) ? Your plan will break and you have to figure out how to handle it.
