Outside of a custom Datasource, is there a simple way to change the order that the Map User Picker displays its results?

As it stands, we are getting a list of Names just as we want, but not in alphabetical order by name, only by username, which is numeric in our setup.

Map object by default sorted based on key value. You can't sort on value.

You have to write custom code for sorting and then return sorted Map/List. You can find example on web just google now.
