iwlistmod on new directory not in staging

Windows 2008 R2

Ok, so there exists in a workarea a new directory "New Folder" that has not been submited to STAGING. That directory happens to also contain other new directories and files. I have a process that runs iwlistmod.exe on any directories attached to a workflow, however, if I run iwlistmode.exe on the "New Folder" it complains becuase the directory hasn't been submitted to STAGING.

iwlistmod.exe /default/main/TS_WF_Testing/WORKAREA/Workarea01/Leadership_Resources2
"/default/main/TS_WF_Testing/WORKAREA/Workarea01/Leadership_Resource2" is a new directory not in the staging area

Really?? I mean it can't just list all the files in that directory and it's subdirectories as modified like it does in the UI? Just silly.

Ok, that being said. What would be an alternative solution? I have considered just getting all files under that directory and all subdirectories but I can't decide the most appropriate and fastest way to do that. Is there another command-line utility that comes with TeamSite, do I use the "dir" windows command (or similar), or do I just write the Perl to iterate over all the directories.

iwcmp.exe doesn't help as it returns the same results as iwlistmod.exe, and of course iwlist.exe only lists files in that directory and not subdirectories.

Any help is greatly appreciated!

You might be able to streamline the algorithm a bit through the use of iwlistmod, but for what you want you're going to need some custom code.

I pretty much assumed this would be the case. I still don't understandy why they would create this command-line tool with such a limitation. I mean if you can list modified files in the UI, you should be able to do it from command-line utility.

I plan to still use iwlistmod but when it returns the message I'll run something else on that directory to find all files in the directory and all subdirectories since if the directory isn't in staging none of the files it contains are either making them "modified".

I essentially did the following:


if (!(-d "$staging_dir"))
{
   find( sub {push (@mod_atts, (map {s/$iwmount$wa\///;$_} $File::Find::name)) if !(-d)} , $wa_dir);
}
else
{
   run iwlistmod.exe on $wa_dir
}

Basically (after ensuring it is a directory in the Workarea) if it's not in STAGING run find() else run iwlistmod.exe. find() comes from File::Find for anyone reading who may not know.

Not sure if it's the most efficient thing to do but it works. I'd like to get rid of the "map" but couldn't think of another way to do the substitution on "$File::Find::name" in one line of code (petty I know). As in all things Perl I'm sure TMTOWTDI Smiley Happy

Update on this. I discovered that if someone deletes a folder (and all subdirectories and files under it) and subsequently recreates that folder in the workarea, iwlistmod.exe is not the way to go as it will not respond with the files that used to be in the directory before it was deleted. In this case iwcmp.exe is the best way to go as you can compare the difference between WORKAREA and STAGING rather than what's modified in the WORKAREA.
