how to create edition for a file?

Hi All,

Is it possible to create an edition for a particular file or folder within a workarea?

I read about iwpublish in the manual.
iwpublish -g [-w|-s] [-f] vpath area comment [ownerid]

>iwpublish main/branch1 STAGING ed_002 'checkpoint'

say inside branch1 I have a workarea1 and inside that I have the required file/folder for which edition needs to be created.

>iwpublish main/branch1/ main/branch1/workarea1/ ed_002 'checkpoint'

The area can be workarea or staging area as per manual.

Or is there any other clt to create edition for files.

An Edition is always cut from the STAGING area and not WORKAREA. After you create your file in workarea, submit it to the STAGING. you can run the iwpublish CLT then, this CLT will take the snapshot of the current state of STAGING area. Your new edition will contain all the files which are newer compared to the last published edition.

No. TS Maintains entire Branch history by publishing Editions from Staging.
There is no way to publish individual file/folder Edition.

The above, though well intentioned and perhaps easy to comprehend, is inaccurate.

The edition does not contain files, it contains references to specific versions of files - and it contains references to the version of all the files in the staging area at the time that the edition was created, not just those that changed since the last edition.
