max no. of files in a branch

We recently migrated to TS 741 Update1 on linux and we brought over the store from 672 a default store size of 30 G and one 2 branch / WORKAREAs which contains 80,000+ files. This is a collection of DCRs, page-view, page-configs, web assets and so on. I would want to know if theres 1) any limit in the no.of files ( I dont know when we speak of store sizes only in GB and not individual no.of files). 2) any impacts due to adding more no.of files in our WORKAREA for a future project that would get aligned with our new server?

Not realy. There are practical limits which are more at the directory level and OS limitations. I was on a project that had hundreds of thousands of files in a single directory (it was running a 64 bit filesystem).

I do not think your branch large at all.

Yes,as such there is no limit on the no of files in a branch,but if the no of files increases if you increase the cachesize in iw.cfg then server performance good,otherwise server responds slowly.

Well, there is limit to cachesize, (max. 400000) which reads there is a limit to the no. of files. But, dont worry, its not an easy reach. And, if you increase the cachesize, you need to make sure you have enough memory available.

This is how cachesize is calculated (from the admin guide):

Each cache line takes a maximum of 1KB of physical memory. Recommended physical memory is cache size times 1KB plus an additional 25% as a safety margin. In the example shown below, physical memory would be (45,000 * 1KB) + 11MB = 56MB. If you encounter a great deal of memory swapping, you should either reduce the cache size or install more memory.
