Adding Analytics Tracking to MediaBin

I am working with a client that has MediaBin 8.0.3 and they have asked me to add Adobe Analytics (SiteCatalyst) tracking to their MediaBin implementation in order to track the behavior and usage of the tool by their employees.

The last time I used MediaBin was in 2008 and I don't recall it being something that would lend itself easily to adding tracking code to. Looking at the current front-end interface I don't think much has changed in that regard, but I was hoping some folks here could help me in that.

Would there be a way to add that kind of tracking to MediaBin at all? Would it require involving a MediaBin consultant to develop a proprietary solution, or is there some kind of module or add-on that could be added that would allow for the addition of tracking code?

I'm not a developer, but I have some rudimentary understanding of code.

Looks fairly simple.

So, when you say you want to integrate Adobe Analytics (SiteCatalyst) to MediaBin, you want to add the JavaScript code to the MediaBin ?

I have a done a similar customization by hacking one of the out-of-the-box .jsp file.

Open <install-location>\MediaBin\ApplicationContainer\server\default\deploy\iw-wcmweb.ear\iw-mediabin.war\main.jsp and add your custom javascript.
Restart Interwoven Jboss Application Server

Reji,

That solves the problem of getting the base analytics code into MediaBin, but what about any type of custom tracking? Even if I use a tag management solution instead of the analytics code directly, we'd still need to set up event listeners in order to do custom event tracking for onClick events and such.

I dont think you can customize MediaBin to that extend.

What type of user actions are you looking to track? It would be good to identify this first before analyzing the best approach to take for the result presentation.

MediaBin database logs most actions (if not all) performed by users.

It could be as simple as tracking downloads, uploads, metadata changes, etc. which are accessible, though not in a nice user interface.
Or more in depth like tracking user actions at a specific button; requires knowing the JS code to customize and adding analytics code. I'm sure it is doable, though can get rather difficult and would take a developer to know where to look and much trial-and-error.

We have done many little customizations of the MediaBin RMM web client, like color highlighting assets based on metadata, lock icons on assets with limited permissions, adding buttons that give direct URLs to collections, ect.

Just remember, when doing any customizations to the UI, maintain notes of the changes and always take back-ups of changed files before upgrading as the code may be overwritten.
