Java installed, but still TeamSite does not recognize it

TeamSite 671, Windows Server 2008, client system : windows 7

I have installed JDK6 on windows7. Now when I try to edit a file on TS671, I get message that "Java is not available on this computer" I uninstalled JDK6 and reinstalled it, but still same problem.

Initially, Java was not installed on client system, so I was getting same message when I installed eclipse on windows7. After installing JDK6, eclipse is working fine. But TeamSite does not recognize JDK6. Then I installed JRE7 and after that I could edit files in TeamSite. So my problem is, why does TeamSite does not recognize Java, when I am installing JDK6 ?

If I insist on working with JDK6 only, how can I get TeamSite wotking wit it ? JDK already has JRE in it, so it should not be a problem.

Please guide with this issue.

Because you are working with a version of TeamSite that came out in 2006 or so. The rev of Java is not supported. You may be able to figure that out, but I highly doubt it

If revision of JDK6 is not working, then I believe JRE6 will also not be supported. I have not tested it yet. I will test JRE6 and will post

JRE7 is working fine, which will have almost all components of JRE6 + more. So how come is that supported ?

There is a difference between working and supported

The fact is that when your version of software was released, Java was at about 1.4. It was also quite dependent on the Java level.

If you want to use your current rev of Java, upgrade TeamSite. Or hope you can make it work.

If you want to know what is supported, check the release notes or ask support.

Here is an excerpt from Java SE 6 Release Notes:
...As part of the JDK, this installation includes an option to include the public Java Runtime Environment...
...The JDK also contains a private JRE for use only by its tools...

So... Have you exercised "an option to include the public JRE" when you installed JDK? I think that the
answer to this question is "No", that's why you had to install it separately.

As to Eclipse, it's a special case. It is a JDK Application by design. You can configure it to run with
multiple JDKs (the term is "to acquaint" Eclipse with your JDKs) and switch JREs per Project. Arguably,
Eclipse can be configured (with some functionality sacrifices) to run on independent JRE without any JDK.
I never tried it.

I saw a similar issue, the fix for me was a bit buried, when I right clicked on the java icon in the trey when doing something like an import or something you select the Java Control Panel then select the Java tab, then click "View" in that tab, under the "User" tab make sure you only have one of the versions of java running, Only one checkbox should be checked in the "Enabled" column.

When more than one is running you have multiple versions of java running at the same time and you get all kinds of conflicts or errors.
