MediaBin 8 - Adding/importing metadata from a file to an asset on upload

We are just upgrading to MediaBin 8 from 4.6 and need to replace a batch job that was used previously.  The batch job would pull data from a DB to create metadata; it would upload multiple assets and then it would attach the metadata to each appropriate asset.

 

The job was written by people from Interwoven and a consulting company 8-9 years ago; hence no one is still around that understands how it worked or even where the code is anymore.

 

Is there a way that when an user uploads an asset that MediaBin can ingest the metadata file with the appropriate content?

Do you know what language the script was written in? If it is vbscript (which a lot of scripts were) then you are in luck because you have the source. The API really isn't that different between the 4.6.x version and 8.x version, just a lot of additional stuff that you don't need for ingestion.

 

There may be a new parameter for the insertion command, but otherwise I think there will be very little that needs to change (I've written a lot of scripts... 8^). I'll check on the API and see if I can find that change and point you in the right direction.
