MediaBin 8 Install issues
PaulW
I am having a nightmare trying to install MediaBin 8. originally the instructions said the 3rd party apps can be installed last.
i got to the part about running the vbs scripts (setting up web service). but it failed because MediaBin was not running. the log had the following:
3/14/2012 4:23:11 PM Locale is: English_United States.1252
3/14/2012 4:23:11 PM Service account user: XXXXX
3/14/2012 4:23:14 PM Repository initialized ok.
3/14/2012 4:23:14 PM Setting MBDataDirectory to \\SERVER1\MBDataDirectory
3/14/2012 4:23:14 PM Setting ImageDb to \\SERVER1\MBDataDirectory\ImageDB
3/14/2012 4:23:14 PM Attached to an Oracle database
3/14/2012 4:23:14 PM Error in starting OpenOffice service
So i ran the third party installer, then manually executed the stored procedures in oracle. But when i restart mediabin, the same error is being logged. Anyone seent his before? I'm not sure how to debug this. can i increase the log level? am i supposed to install OO as a service?

Check if the OpenOffice installed with the same Service account user. Open the OpenOffice application and see if there any errors.
Double check the MBSettings table with the OpenOffice path.

Hi,
I am having the same problem. Did you manage to solve it? Where do you get installation instructions?

Check and make sure you can open OpenOffice.
Also, as I remember, the first time you install OpenOffice, there may be a dialog box open asking you to register or something but this doesn't always open the first time you open the application.
If MB is trying to start OpenOffice and this dialog hasn't been disabled it will error out.

INstall Thirdparty Insallables like open office before you start server installation.
Also, openoffice should open manually first just like adobe reader etc.,
Thanks,

Since the third party apps were installed after MB server, verify the paths to each third party app are correct in the MBsettings table.

If MBSettings entry is not present for OpenOffice.
Update the table with OPenOffice installable path. Like below example
exec AddOrReplaceSettings
'{<>}','OpenOfficeService','C:\Program Files (x86)\
OpenOffice\OpenOffice.org 3\program\soffice.exe'
Barcharts using DIV__cwong.rptdesign
