Difference between DCR and component

I am new to teamsite, what is the difference between DCR and Component. In what scenarios should i use either of these.

I assume you're referring to storing the data within component datums or storing the data in a DCR that is reference by a component.

Very simply, use a DCR if you want to "share/use" the same content between multiple pages.

A DCR is a TeamSite FormsPublisher artifact
A Component is a TeamSite LiveSite artifact
Neither has anything to do with Workflows - which is where you posted the question.
Please close this thread, and if you still have questions - open a new thread in a more relevant forum (FormsPublisher or LiveSite - but please do not post the same questions in both forums)

Adding some more point on Ghoti's reply.

DCR is piece of content with out presentation (created based on DCT template - Forms Publisher Artifcat).

Component is piece of data as like DCR with additionally applied Presentation skin (Content+Presentation Template logic) and it has feature to change some of the UI skin at dynamically while building website/page.
