How to Attach files to create filelist in workflow for doing filelist deployment

Hi everyone,

I am using Teamsite 732 and i am working with workflow modeler.

--I am trying to deploy the files that I have attached in my workflow
--I am using filelist based deployment, can any one share how filelist is created in workflow any directions will be helpful.
--Once filelist is created where I can see these filelist, I will then go for deploy task where I will pass the ODdeployment name of the config file.

any help will be usefull for me, I have gone through documents but no idea how to attach files to create filelist.

There's no OOTB code that will do this for you (unless you're using the PLC). You'd have to write an external task (Perl) or URL task (Java) to write that filelist, and then likely set a variable on the deploy task with the filename you created. Or, if you build your own deployment task implementation, you can do it all in one go.

If I am understanding your question correctly, you are trying to develop a WF to deploy the files. And you want to deploy only those files, which you have selected while initiating the WF.

If thats the case, than try <filelist area="$area^" filePath="$filelist^"> in your OD Config

These variables automatically take values from WF.

$area will be the workarea path from where you have initiated the WF.

$filelist will contain files which you have selected while initiating the WF.

also I was thinking to use OOTB WF- author submit with deploy, where in deploy task I will give my deploy config file name in odDeploymentName instead of test which is set.

I want to have reviewer thats y going with this ootb wf, please suggest if any

Romil's response is incredibly misleading in that nothing of what he said actually comes out of the box. You have you write the code that creates the filelist file, and you have to write the code that feeds this as a variable to OD.**

EDIT: My statement was proven wrong, at least in v7.4.x+

What do you mean? That variable on the deploy task is exactly where you'd set it.

May be I am missing something here or not understood the OP question properly.

I am attaching a sample WF (which copy files from one TS to another). It just have submit and deploy task. I have not written any code to read/create filelist. The OD Config 'toUAT.xml' reads the $filelist variable automatically (list of files selected while initiating the WF).

Maybe the attach WF (in above post) will solve your pupose. Modify the OD Config as per your need.

Rick - I just tested on TS 7.4.0 / OD 7.3.2:

Created a WFM that contained only a DeployTask and an EndTask
In DeployTask I only defined the variable for the OD Config ("deploytest")
Configured the workflow for Submit
Created the deploytest.xml deployment configuration using the parameter variables "$area" and "$filelist"
Selected a few files and submitted them with the workflow

Those files (and only those files) got deployed.

The documentation hints at this without stating it completely clearly on page 83 of the 7.4 WFM Developer's Guide

For the OP - you won't have any insight into the way the filelist gets created unless you build your own script or class for performing the deployment - but suffice it to say that the relative-path of all the files will be entered into that filelist.

If your (OP) intent is to deploy files relative to a different source path - you'd have to write your own code to handle that; If your intent is to include additional files to deploy - as long as they can be represeted relative to the same source path, you can expressly add them to the job before the deploy task and they should get deployed too. Anything else and you probably need to write your own code.

FWIW - if I just select a directory instead of individual files - the directory and its contents do get deployed.

thats y I said If I can use OOTB WF- "author submit with deploy" and customize it, as this WF has review, submit and deploy task to publish the files in the target server nodes.

Also, I have things to do:

1)content1 folder with subfolders in it, I want this content1 folders to select and send to target server s1,s2 using the above WF.

2)content2 folder with subfolders in it, I want this content2 folders to select and send to target server s3,s4 using the above WF

Now, can I do it in one deploy config file where I can use 2 definitions source/target pair and 2 execute deployment , I have attached the deployconfig file.

Plz suggest.

I have not seen your od conf. But you can achieve it in one file, by using filters.

What you posted looks like it should work - but you should be able to verify it fairly easily - at the very least you can enable dontDo in the transferRules (to prevent the actual transfer from occurring) and check the log files that are created to verify that it would be doing "the right thing" (and then disable dontDo and run it again for real)

That's one way to do it - you could also use a single definition with multiple pathSpecification elements where at least one (if not both) contain a targetRules element that overrides the targetFilesystem element within the target section - and then you only have one execDeploymentTask.
