Accessing a DCR from within DCT

1) Can we access database from TS ? eg rates and fees are in db and we have to access this db to get content in DCT. I understand , we can make an external call. External call happens through select or browser. But can we make an external call for selecting a value in a text field from a DCR ?

2) Is it possible to access db from DCT (Is external call the only way )?

Look up "datasource framework" in the WorkflowModeler Guide (yes, it's a weird place to put it). Basically, you'd want to write a DataSource class (in Java) that connects to your database and returns a list of options back to your DCT field.

datasource is used to retrieve data from database. Here we are not connecting to database, but geting field values from DCR XML file. Is that possible to refer to a DCR and choose values ? (May be we can use inline command, which lists values of DCR). Is there any other choice ?

You can also use a callserver to call a Perl script that can parse another DCR (xml file).

Strictly speaking, a datasource is a piece of Java code that can retrieve a list of values from *anywhere*. It doesn't have to be a database, even if the documentation uses that as an example.

And yes, you could use an inline command or a callserver with PERL, but that's more legacy-style implementation and therefore not "best practice" if you can avoid it by using the more recent tools.
