Site Search on Runtime

Hi,

I want to build a site level search to search on the generated .page files for end users. Is it possible to do a site search using LSCS/LSDS on the runtime environment? Will the lscs admin's /lscs/v1/document help to provide a solution, can that be used as site search?

Any help/guide would be very much appreciated.

LSCS can only do faceted search (based on pre-existing metadata), not full text search. So no, you need a separate product to do this, such as full IDOL (not the OEM version shipped with LSCS) or a Google Search Appliance, or even an OSS like Lucene/Apache Solr.

This may not be quite as simple as you would like.

In our case from preview most of the links on the site don't work. Most of our users don't put in the proper $URL_ALIAS tags and the like.

Therefore a spider of preview, in our environment, wouldn't work. Therefore you would need to do some sort of sitemap page to every .page file. If your site's sitemap is populated with every .page file on your site, you're 99% of the way there. If not....well I don't have a good solution for you.

I'm also not sure what you expect to get out of doing this. Why search the preview site at all? You will get back unreadable (not useful?) URLs to the pages. You may be better served to search some test environment.

Not sure if I fully understand the question. You want to allow users to search for .page files using LSCS?

You could change deployment descriptors to publish *.page files to LSCS. Assuming they were tagged in a meaningful way you could then search for them using normal LSCS queries.

I want to enable a site level search to the end users that they can search for keywords that are on the .page files.

As per your requirement you should go with separate product for leveraging search capabilities. As Rick already suggested some of the search products.
