browsing for files to add to a workflow
mogoo
I could swear I've seen this somewhere before, but I can't seem to find it...
When an Author submits, sometimes all the files they're submitting live in different directories. What I'd like is an "add existing files" function in the initial submit screen (where the Author is filling out Submit comments, etc). I thought I saw this feature on one of the OOTB wfs, but I can't seem to find it again. Can someone please point me in the right direction???
v5.5, Solaris
thanks,
maureen

Not sure exactly what you're looking for. What would the "Add Existing Files" functionality allow you to do? We use List Modified to add files from different directories.

Yes! That functionality is perfect... but how to I get it into the initial screen, when the workflow is first started (vs. being available to me from the "Start Task" window?
List Modified is great, for everyone except Authors. I'm talking about when Authors need to submit files from 5 different directories, can't you give them the "Add Existing Files" on the screen that comes up when they press the Submit button?

Not sure if this helps but I once used "iwcmp" command line tool to fetch the differences between my workarea and staging. This I was running as a CGitask. IN my custom CGi script after fetching the output from this command, I constructed a dynamic select list box (HTML) for user to select from the CGI task screen. ANd once they submit the form, the script would add these files in the workflow with Command Line Tool to add the files to workflow.
Would this help you?

You are correct, Mogoo. Some of the example workflows (including the Configurable Author Assignment in 5.5.2) have an "Add Files" user task as their first task. This is a task owned by the person who initiated the job and it gives the user the opportunity to attach additional files to job. In the case of the Configurable Author Assignment workflow, this is an optional task so you may have it switched off. These additional files do not have to be in the same directory and do not have to be modified. (They do, however, have to be in the same area.)
BTW, in 5.5.2 SP2 (which was just released this week) this task was added as an option to the Configurable Author Submit workflow.

Additional note: The list of modified files
is
available to Authors. But you need to list the modified files before you start the job, just as you do with other roles.
For example, from WebDesk go to the top-level directory in the workarea and then select View -> My Modified Files. You should see a list of all of the files modified by the author in the workarea. You can then select the desired files a press Submit.
