Is there any difference between Search functionality betweem TS672 and TS741 ? In TS741, is search available by default OR is it to installed separately like in earlier version ?
Search is a separate installation - usually performed on a separate server.
There have been numerious updates / "fixes" to search over the various releases - so there's likely to be differences - even if they aren't readily apparent to the end-user.

There are massive differences between the versions that are several years apart. No you will now be able to use 741 search with 672.
I typically install it on the TS server but it can be on its own server as well. It is still a separate install but you can do it at the same time as TS.

No - they were never required to be on the same server.
Servers on different machines can communicate with each other via networking protocols (mostly TCP/IP) - and that is how TeamSite and TeamSite search do it - as long as the server and port informtion are configured correctly - the applications can exchange information as they see fit.
