Configuring DCT in templating.cfg

I am doing ine POC. I copied an existing datatype in a workarea to different workarea and renamed it.

I included this new datatype in templating.cfg under the same category. I have configured branch as it was confugured for datatype which is copied. Now when I am doing "new form entry" for this new datatype, I am getting an error "This datatype is not configured for this branch OR you do not have permission"

This is just a simple configurationand still I am getting error. Is there something else in the configuration that I a missing ? OR does the metadata for this new datatype is causing problem ? ie metadata of original datatype is also copied to new datatype created from it. When I rename this datatype, original metadata still remains there and it causes problems ?

Please guide me with this.

Please post the templating.cfg file identifying the "old" and "new-copy" DCT entries.

Are you getting errors trying to create new DCRs of the copied DCT-type or only when you try to edit existing, copied, DCRs that may have EAs referencing the old / original category/data-type information?

If it's just the latter, then that is likely to be the issue - if you fix the EA, the DCRs should load up for editing.

If the problem occurs when trying to create new DCRs - then the issue is either with the templating.cfg file or the branch / workarea / directory security / permissions and/or role assignments.

If I have permission to create new datatype using copy command, does it not mean that I will have permission to create new DCR from this datatype ?

I can create DCR using "new form entry" from original datatype from which new datatype is created.

While it is possible that this is a permissions issue, it is more likely just a configuration issue.

I suggest you (or someone who has the abiity to do so) look at the IWHOME/local/config/templating.cfg file.

If you copied the DCT from category-1/datatype-1 in branch-A to category-1/datatype-2 or category-2/datatype-1 (or -N) in the same branch-A - you need to make sure that the new category and/or datatype is configured.

If you copied the DCT from category-1/datatype-1 in branch-A to category-1/datatype-1 in a different branch-B - you need to make sure that the new category / datatype is configured either generically across all-branches or explicitly for both branch-A and branch-B.

If you post the templating.cfg file - as previously suggested - clearly indicating what you copied, and what you copied it to - it would probably be easier to help you further; but frankly it shouldn't be that difficult for you to figure it out.

I do not have remote access to TS server, but just UI. So I can not post templatring,cfg

I have modified templating.cfg exactly as it is for other datatype in the same branch. Category and branch are same, datatype is different.

Branch structure and permissions are as follows

/main/rd/WORKAREA - Administrator

/main/rd/rd_community/WORKAREA - Editor

datatypes are in the path "/main/rd/rd_community/WORKAREA/content/templatedata/portal/datatype1, datatype2"

datatype2 is copied from datatype1.

If I have Administrator access in parent branch "rd" , do I automatically get same access in child branch "rd_community" OR can the permissions be more restrictive for a child branch ?

Editor role grants access to "copy" and "New File" command. That means I can create new file in workarea. Does it mean that I can create new datatype in a workarea OR is it limited to creating text file OR importing a file only ?

Is siteadmn role OOTB or is ita custom role ?

I suggest you either see about getting remote access to the server or getting some time to spend with someone who does have that access, so that you can do a proper job of debugging the issue.

It could be permissions, it could be configuration, it could be something else.

Please answer this regarding the original and copy of the DCT:

Is the datatype name of the copy identical or different than the original?
Is the category name of the copy identical or different than the original?
Is the branch vpath where the copy is located identical or different than the original?
Is what you posted the configuration specification for the copy or the original?

Provide the answer to all four of the above questions, and it should be easier to pinpoint the source of the issue.

I knew, templating.cfg is correctly configured.

Problem was too simple

On the UI, I was granted access to TS672 and on the back end, I was granted access to TS741. It came to my attention this fact, when I checked install folder and saw TS 741 there.

I opened other thread to findout how to findout version on backend.
