Get container index count dynamically

How can i fetch a container index?

I know how to get last index of or the chidren count of containers..

What i want is , say i open 10 containers and i want to toggle a radio button(work on onItemChange event) on 6th container . So i would need the xpath of the 6container..How to fetch that '6'th index?

I guess there must be some solution..

Appreciate the help!

My solution is to iterate through each container and apply the onchange event..

But it will increase the processing time..

Any better solutions?

The onItemChange event handler should be registered to the generic xpath (no instance values), the routine that is registered to the event will be passed the IWItem specific to whichever instance of the item triggered the event - so, in most cases, you should not need to worry about it.

Example DCT structure:

<container name="foo" location="foo" min="1" max="10">
  <item name="bar" pathid="bar">
    ...
  </item>
</container>

Example FormAPI init()

function init() {
   IWEventRegistry.addItemHandler("/root/foo/bar", "onItemChange", myFunc);
   ...
}

Example handler function:

function myFunc(item) {
   console.log("ITEM: " + item.getName());
   ...
}

If you change the value of the first instance of "/root/foo/bar" - that will be the item that is passed to the function; If you change the value of the second instance, that will be the item that is passed to the function, etc.

If you need to get the address of the instance for some other reason - please provide a lot more detail about what you are trying to do / why you are trying to do it. For something around 95% of the time, the above is all you need to do.

I tried using your solution,but it didnt work.

I will to explain the scenario..

So here is a hidden field which gets visible on item change of item 'bar'. Now say u entering data untill 10th container..Now you want to change data for 4th container..that is on item change of bar of 4th container, item box will get invisible..

So here's the thing,

When you try to go from 10th container to say 4th,and do onitem change xpath to that 4th container isnt correct,as the index we fetched will always return the max count of containers

var index=IWDatacapture.getItem("/root/foo").getChildren().length

, and we need the 4th container index( dynamically of course,as we cant hard code).

For this reason , xpath is failing.. I tried using generic index as you mentioned and it throws error like object /root/foo/box is null, hence we need the instance of the container(something like /root/foo[index]/box ) to play with making visible/non-visible the item box.

I think you're doing something wrong and/or misunderstanding what I provided to you.

Unless you can post the actual, relevant code (your init function, your change handler function) it will be difficult to debug what you are doing.

What I provided was a mid-level / mid-detail solution to working with change handler functions in FormAPI that should correctly provide the address to the 4th instance when you change it regardless of how many total instances there are in the replicant.

Your solution worked..

I wasn't passing item object to the method, so i had to explicitly track the xpath address of item.

Passing item to the method (called from onitem change event) as parameter and using

IWDatacapture.getItem(item.getName()+"/../box").setVisible(false);

worked..
