questions about Dependency Migration Tool

Hello gurus,

We are doing migration from TS 6.7.2 to TS 7.3.2 in Windows 2003 SE SP2, and we won't use LiveSite.

Quote from the Installation Guild:

"TeamSite associations are used by the Find Related Files feature, the Publish LiveSite Content workflow when attaching dependencies, and by localized sites."

"After the workarea is migrated, submit the files."

Some questions:

1. If we don't use LiveSite, can we skip running the tool after upgrade?

2. If we have to run the tool, can we run it later? I ask it because it may take long time for all of workareas, and it may not be finished in the release day. Can we migrate single workarea everyday at night after release day? Whether the new created DCRs can work together with the old un-migrated ones?

3. Can we run the tool for new 7.3.2 DCRs? I wonder what happens if we run the tool for a workarea, which contains mixed 7.3.2 DCRs and old 6.7.2 DCRs.

4. After running the tool, it need submit the filies. I guess it means submit to staging instead of publishing to OD receiver. Please confirm it.

1- No. The dependency management is used on DCRs as well. Whether you choose to make use of that information is up to you, but you should migrate that information anyway in case you ever do.

2- Probably? The notion is that you want to have the dependencies migrated before some process needs to use them. If you don't have LiveSite, you may not need them for a while, so you could delay the migration of that data.

3- You can, but there won't be anything to migrate. If you have mixed content in the workarea, i'm assuming it'll either skip new DCRs for lack of legacy info, or it'll just merge the two datasets. Either way, upgrading is not a switch-flipping exercise, so I don't understand why you can't take the time to run the script and do this properly.

4- Again, if you don't use the dependency information (yet), then there's no urgent need to submit at all if you so choose. In addition, that information is only used within TeamSite so there's no need to deploy out to a runtime.
