Customizing advanced search

I need to add more options to the filter dropdown when searching on a text field, like "All words", "At least one word" etc. How can I customize the Advanced Search UI and update the query based on the added constraints..
Can anyone help me to find out a solution!!

You can write your own Search UI in Java. Good luck with that...

Ok.
He has to keep his chages in proper place(folders)
And
He has to run CLT so that his customization changes can take place.

Please correct me if I am wrong.

That would be true if the Search UI was one that you could customize in a supported fashion. However, you can't.

Just to be clear - are you talking about the middle-section of the Advanced Search UI (essentially for metadata fields) or the upper-section of the Advanced Search UI?

I don't have access to the UI right now - but I thought the upper section already provided multiple mechanisms for full-text search.

The middle section is, as Smitty pointed out, not customizable in the manner you're looking for - not only does it only search "All Words", but it also always does "fuzzy matching".

Then of course, there's the issue with what do you do when you get back more than N (default N=50) hits from your search - since the UI doesn't provide the pagination it should, so you're stuck with only being able to see the first N hits.

I added options to the dropdown by modifying field_selection_section.inl . There is only one option available for string data types. Is there any way to modify CSSDK class library for Search ?

Here is the code I added :
opSelect.options[0] = new Option("", "<%= SearchQueryContext.OPERATOR_EQUALS %>", true, false);
opSelect.options[1] = new Option("", "<%= SearchQueryContext.OPERATOR_EQUALS %>", true, false);

You're messing with stuff that is unsupported. If you break TeamSite, you'll be on your own. Best that you back up everything before you go down that road. If this is so important to you, you can always write your own search widget using the Java CSSDK they give you. Then you can pretty much create any type of search constraints you want. And not break the UI.

Right - that's the part for which there is no support for customization (unless you get Autonomy Support to give you a different answer - if so, please share)

The boxes at the top allow you to do different variations of text searching - but that's full-text of everything (content + metadata).

If you want to restrict your search to a single field of content / metadata using the lower [in the UI] search options - then you are limited to "All Words" for String type fields.
