Unable to create New Site - TS 7.3.1

Trying to figure out what is happening here...this seems to be a recent occurance.

TS 7.3.1
Win 2k8 R2 Standard SP1

Branch structure is site as follows:

--default (store)
--main (branch)
--www (sub branch)
--Member (sub branch of www)
--Shopper (sub branch of www)

Members and Shoppers seems to be operating in normal capacity. We already have components and pages built..layouts and templates...etc..etc...

When I try to create a new site in the "www" branch workarea, under "shared" I do not get the New Site dialog box like I typically would.

In Shopper and Member branches, in the workareas I can create new sites just fine.

Checked all permissions up to the default store and seems to be fine. I am a platform master.

When I click "New Site" it literally does nothing.... both in IE and FireFox.

We have about 9 other test and installed branches with various other sites, and test areas...

Is there a limitation on sites allowed?

Also, when I create a new branch, what I typically remember was that there was default folders automatically created like the "iw" and "resources" folders.... this behavior does not seem to be working either when creating a new branch...

Any idea as to what would cause me not being able to create a new site under WWW, but can create a new site in Member or Shopper???

Is there a limitation on sites allowed?

There isn't. You should check your server logs, as there must be some kind of exception occurring in the background if the new site wizard doesn't come up. One of the possible reasons is that your default page type is a fixed layout type, and you don't have any layouts defined in /iw/config/fixed-layout in this workarea (leads to a silent JS error).

The successful completion of the New Site wizard will create a few folder structures if they don't already exist, including "sites", "iwov-resources" and "iw". Note that for iw, it creates the taxonomy and targeting stuff (if enabled), but it doesn't copy /iw/config/fixed-layout from anywhere. If you were expecting those layouts, a static assets folder for css/js/img and/or templatedata to get created automatically, you must've had a custom script/workflow/process written to do that for you somewhere because that's not ootb.

I looked in the iwevents.log in the admin console and see nothing out of sorts.
Is there a server log in particular I should look into?

First, use Firebug or similar to make sure you don't have a JavaScript error, because that won't show up in server logs. Those are your most likely candidates, for scenarios like I've explained above.

For TeamSite server logs, I mean
ApplicationContainer/server/default/log/server.log
TeamSite/local/logs/iwui/content_center.log

For 7.2+, whenever anybody on these forums says 'server logs' without further qualifying that, those are usually the ones we mean.

Hmm... using Firebug...What I notice are 3 initial page loading errors.

Then after I try to create: File > New Site

The following error is displayed:

Not that I could tell you want any of those mean, but I thought I would share.

Took at look at the other logs, and did not see anything I could notice in relation to creating a new site, or action errors.

@rpouliln Seems as though you were correct my friend.

Went through several trial and error sites, and folder creation until we came to the conclusion that we were unable to create a site, without a layout xml file in the "fixed-layouts" folder.

Created everything else around that one file, and until an actual layout was in place, the New Site dialog box would not come up.
