templates generate cfg files
sara
We have successfully tested the deployment of configuration files from a dedicated administration branch.
We also tested the iwdtd2sym to generate a dct from a dtd of a configuration file (e.g.available_templates.cfg), resulting in an administration form for that cfg based on templates.
Based on these tests we assume it should be possible to create our proper administration tools, by using templates and workflows in a dedicated administration branch, eliminating the need of access to the UNIX system and allowing administration versioning.
Before going further in the design of our administration management and the implementation, I would like to know other opinions and advises on feasibility, best practices, vulnerability in future releases of TeamSite.
I haven't found any recommendations or advises against this approach.
I would appreciate your opinion or some links to further information.
Thanks

Personally I would always be very cautious when automatically updating system files.
The approach by itself can easily be handled with templating and a nice (deployment) workflow. It shouldn't be to hard at all.
But the thing with such systems is that you take away some responsibility from the user (I thought the system would handle that). It is questionable whether you want that if it comes down to modifying system files.
