How to use generic.pl for all templatedata in Different Workareas

In all above data folders there are couple of DCRs(.xml), which have some common data. I have to extract that common data.

Inially I treid with .tpl which works good, But as I can't use single tpl in all DCT_Types, I have to copy .tpl with minor changes. As I have 200 plus DCTs, I dont want to replicate 200 times.

So, generic.pl will take input of XML type and outputs another XML. But How to apply the same generic.pl for all DCRs of different Data_Types present in Different workareas?

Elaborated Idea will be appreciated?

Please try to rephrase your question. I suspect you are trying something common but your description was not very helpful.

In a generic sense, to share DCTs across multiple branches one would use an inline statement int he DCT to reference a perl script that outputs common XML.

To share a TPL across multiple branches one would use an iw_include statement which will do the same on the generation side.

I have explained as per structure in my current new project. I'll put in other words.

Here it goes.
They have maintained only one category per workarea and workarea represents a country. In that single category we have many DCTs. For all data types there are couple of DCRs out of which used for generation of .aspx pages. Now we have added two extra fields in all data capture.cfgs. the info provided in these two fields, we want as in HTML file. 20DCRs with those two fields info have to generate 20HTMLs and have to be saved in some folder structure. These 20DCRs may be from different DCTs. And they don't want yo distrub already used tpl uswd for generating aspx.

Let me know if need more info. Also share your thoughts.

It is still confusing, I feel you might have too many duplicate DCT's in different branches and there might a change happened to one/all of the DCT's but you prefer not to edit all the tpl's, if that's the scenario just write another tpl add reuse it.

user nipper has already wrote how to reuse your .tpl files in another .tpl. you can copy existing tpl, rename it and add the new fields logic to generate your new pages.

if this is not the situation and my understanding is incorrect, try to present it differently.

Here is generalized scenario.

WORKAREA/templatedata/Category1/dataType1/data/first.xml, second.xml
WORKAREA/templatedata/Category1/dataType2/data/third.xml
WORKAREA/templatedata/Category1/dataType3/data/ten.xml

In all above data folders there are .xml files which have some common information in elements meta_desc and meta_keys. We have to extract this meta info from each xml and have to output in html file, like as below
WORKAREA/meta_info/Category1/dataType1/first.html, second.html
WORKAREA/meta_info/Category1/dataType2/third.html
WORKAREA/meta_info/Category1/dataType3/ten.html

I want to input xmls to generic.pl which generates htmls as above. Means generic.pl will read all xmls present in WORKAREA/templatedata/Category1/ and outputs htmls with extracted meta info respectively.

I know how to implement perl, but i dont know how to call this perl file from WorkArea??

Are you trying to only extract the common fields of information from the DCRs of these different DCT-types?
Is the xpath structure for these elements identical in all the different DCT-types (a common short-sightedness issue when developing DCTs IMO)?

Assuming the answer to the first question is "yes", then yes, a Perl script to extract the information would be reasonable.

Assuming the answer to the second question is "yes", then either a perl-based TPL or XSLT-based PT should work; if the answer was "no", then an XSLT-based script (be it implemented in Perl or Java) would probably be the way to go.

Part of the answer also requires knowing if you're trying to do this on a 1:1 basis (i.e.: one of those files gets submitted and you want to process it in two different ways - one for the entire HTML output and one for the common field data) or more like a 1:N periodic index of all the DCRs in all the different folders.

Either can be done, however both require coding at some level by you. Whether the script is executed in a workflow (external task most likely), iwat script, or cron job is dependent upon your actual needs.

Write your PT code in one workarea under presentation folder

and call that tpl code in other workareas presentation
