Predictive Search

Hi,

We are planning to implement a custom search screen using MediaBin APIs. One of the requirements is to show suggestions in the search box when the user starts entering a search term.

The suggestions have to be fetched from the values of few of the metadata fields available in MediaBin. We will be using Virgae MediaBin 8.0.3. Need suggestions on how possibly it can be implemented? Any pointers are welcome.

Have you opened a feature request to HP/Autonomy yet? If not I suggest you do as this could be a feature of the product rather than building a custom UI. I have already opened one, the more who ask the better chances of it happening.

I definitely see the great value in this. It will help in entering metadata values easy; if it isn’t very easy to tag and classify the assets users won’t and any system based on search will become complete rubbish.

However if you still want or need this before HP does it, off the top of my head, the first place I would start looking is the IDOL suggestive search (Concept Cloud) engine. Since it is already looking at all metadata and returning back weighted value results.

We have not yet raised the feature request, but yes it is good idea to raise it.

In the meantime I will also explore the concept cloud option and share my findings.

MediaBin 8.1 and greater utilizes IDOL's suggested search terms feature to supply suggestions as you type in the Quick Search at the top of the UI.
