During Upgrade-6.5 to 7.3.2 UI Custom not working

Hi,

We are upgrading Teamsite 6.5 to 7.3.2 without LS. Our approach is a fresh install approach in new hardware we have done all the upgrade steps and most of the migration is done, only the custom menu items are not coming up. Below are the steps we have followed for the same:

Updated the ui_custom.xml and application_custom.xml from \TeamSite\local\config\lib\content_center\customer_src\etc\conf\customer folder

Ran Make Tool Kit :

/Interwoven/Teamsite/local/config/lib/content_center/customer_src>D:/Interwoven/Teamsite/iw-perl/bin/iwperl

/Interwoven/Teamsite/bin/make_toolkit.ipl

Also done TeamSite ui and a reset

CChecked the Applicationcontainer path -ui_custom.xml and application_custom.xml files are placed their.

Clear browser cache and checked in Firefox and IE-8

Please let me know if I am missing something or doing something wrong to get these custom menu items in new environment.

I have checked the guides for 7.3.2 but it is telling me about the way of Spring and Java i.e. customer.xml but I dont want to do it as Customer's admin team do not want any thing different then previous versions. Can we still do this customization using custom_ui.xml or this option is now not available with newer versions?

Did you get any error messages when you did the make_toolkit.ipl?

I haven't done much with 7.3.2 yet, but I don't think they changed the manner of adding custom menu items to the UI. Assuming you had it configured correctly in 6.5, I believe the same configuration should work in 7.3.2 (I don't have my manuals handy to check right now)

Do the menu items not show up? Or do they show up and not function?

The latter would be indicative of something that needs to be fixed in the customization code itself (rather than the configuration)

Not sure about 6.5 but after upgrading from 7.2.1 to 7.3.2 and running a toolkit, all of our UI customizations showed up just fine. No tweaking required.

I have also moved pre 7 GUI customizations to 732, the only issue I had was that there is a bug in adding new tabs. IIRC, they issued a patch for that pretty quick.

After build it is not giving any error but menu Items are not showing up in 7.3.2, I have copied the same Configuration from the 6.5 which are working their. :mad:

You might need to grant these custom items to your roles (i believe this is new when you are coming from 65.

It is not explicitly mentioned in the manuals i believe so:

1. go to 'Administration'-gui
2. User mgt -> Roles
3. select a role & click edit
4. click 'global' and check the proper 'Custom User operations'

Apparently you're doing something wrong, which, without a crystal ball, no one here can really know what that might be. To state the obvious, have you opened a support ticket?

Yes Smitty, I have opened the support ticket. I may not doing everything correct or may be their is some problem with either cache or product...but whaever I will definitely post the solution if I get.

I have Remove all the operationID tag from the ui_custom.xml and its worked. Following are the steps for migrating menu customization.

Open the following directory in Teamsite Server

\Interwoven\TeamSite\local\config\lib\content_center\customer_src\etc\conf\customer

Keep the backup of ui_custom.xml.

Copy the changes one by one from older ui_custom.xml and paste it into the files of new Server.

Remove all the operationID tag from the ui_custom.xml file.

Run make_toolkit.ipl as below:

/Interwoven/Teamsite/local/config/lib/content_center/customer_src>D:/Interwoven/Teamsite/iw-perl/bin/iwperl

/Interwoven/Teamsite/bin/make_toolkit.ipl

Check if the files deployed in to the webapp folder at below location:

\Interwoven\ApplicationContainer\server\default\deploy\iw-cc.war\WEB-INF\conf\customer

Clear the browser cache.

Custom menu item will be available.

So in other words, you forgot to carry over your changes to userops_custom.xml, so the "fix" was to make your menu item available to everybody?
