does anyone not inherit lower roles ?
nipper
Pet peeve:
I request make smitty an admin. Smitty gets placed in the admin.uid but not in editor and author. So I go back and request editor and author access as well.
(I have seen this at many new installations or new admins).
So there are 2 reasons why IW would not do this: 1 - it is too difficult (doubtful), 2- companies have users with higher access but not the lower access. (again doubtful)
So before I put it in the suggestion box, does anyone set a user as a higher role and NOT the lower roles ?
Andy

I'm not really sure what you're asking here. But I am feeling good that you used Smitty as your example. I set certain people up as Admins and not Editor or Author. I was under the impression that as an Admin that user gets everything they would have had as an Author and as an Editor in addition to extra stuff only Admins get to do. Seems to work that way. Are you saying that's good or bad?

In a former life I worked on a security server that was for a bank. The bank was adamant about not having admins be able to do anything but administer the system. They couldn't create files or anything. So, I can think of instances where admins should not be given 'author' privileges. It is probably more the exception though.

Yes you did answer my question. While an admin does do everything an editor plus more, he cannot login as an editor unless he is in the editor role also.
This comes into play debugging esp with Webdesk, I frequently logout as master and in as author to replicate a user issue.
I also have a few users that are emergency editors but run as authors 95% of the time
