New Instance of LSDS

Hi,
I have a Linux server on which I have a LSDS server installed , running on port 1776 . I want to install another instance of LSDS for a different site on the same server running on a different port, say 1777. Can I do that ? Will there be any clash with existing LSDS ? Do I need to install another Tomcat server for the new LSDS instance ?
I want to ensure that there is no effect on the existing LSDS instance, hence the questions.

While I defer to those with more experience in such setups, I'm pretty sure the answer is "yes".
The environment I'm in uses WebSphere - and they have multiple LSDS instances installed and configured (with distinct ports) on their servers - both within separate application containers, as well as (on their DEV box) within the same container.
As long as you have sufficient memory on the server, I don't think having multiple instances of LSDS within the same tomcat instance should be a problem - but as I said before, I defer to those with more experience in such setups.

Yes you can do it. You can install two instances of tomcat, but its probbaly easier to jsut set them up on different ports within a single instance of your app server.

While Paul's link is generically correct, note the following specific to LSDS:
* The file you're looking to change is Interwoven\LiveSiteDisplayServices\runtime\tomcat\conf\server.xml, NOT the one under your actual tomcat root.
* You must use different service names, but for LSDS the names you use don't matter (this is not the case for LSCS)
* Use different prefixes for all loggers (on the Logger and the Valve nodes), e.g. "instance1.access."
* Use a different context docBase for the second service, if not for both. I suggest forking "web" to "instance1" and "instance2" (use better names) so that you catch anything using "web" by default and parameterize it.
* As fish mentioned, keep memory usage in mind. Tomcat uses the same JVM for all instances, so if one instance craps they all ****. They also all share any memory cap, so you basically just split your heap space in two. "Enterprise" containers like WebSphere/WebLogic/JBoss/etc. (can) actually create separate virtual servers for each, thus getting their own JVMs and memory space. That's the right way to go on production servers. If you're using Tomcat on production, you'll want to have distinct Tomcat services rather than hosting both instances in the same one.

After making the changes, when I start the server , I get error ,default LSDS instance on 1776 also stops working.

Have you actually copied the contents of C:\Interwoven\LiveSiteDisplayServices\runtime\web into C:\Interwoven\LiveSiteDisplayServices\runtime\webNew ?

Hi Rick,
Apologies ! I didn't copy the WEB_INF folder in webNew/ folder. After copying the folder , I am able to access both LSDS instances running on ports 1776 & 1777.
