Populating and setting values in select dropdown in DCT

Hi ,

I have a DCT in which i have a dropdown list of some items. These items are being fetched by a callserver call to get their values from another DCT. These values are being fetched properly. But problem is that when i select any one of the values from the dropdown, the select field on the DCT doesnt persist with the selected value. Even on DCR edit, the selected values dont persist and we need to select the values from the dropdown again.

Can someone guide me on an easy approach to resolve this? Also, i tried with some code in javascript but that doesn't seem to work...

Let me know if i need to post the entire code..

You'll need to post something - because without seeing some code we have no idea what you are, or aren't, doing with respect to retrieving and/or storing the values.

Also - verify if your DCT is written in "iwov" or "xml" mode - and whether you have properly defined it as such in the templating.cfg file (there have been cases where a DCT declared to be in one mode but written in another tends to lose data when the DCR is saved / reloaded)

Assuming you don't have the iwov/xml saving problem Adam mentioned, check that when you preview the record, the field shows the value (as opposed to the label) that was selected for that record. If it's there, then you're probably resetting the options in the dropdown without first capturing the selected option and reselecting it after you've populated the dropdown (yes, you do have to do that manually).

That said, if you're not populating the dropdown based on the value of another field, I'd suggest using either an inline cmd (perl) or a datasource (java) to populate the dropdown, and then you don't have to worry about reselecting the value in your code.
