Copy taxonomies from one branch to another branch
Nageswar
Hi Techies,
How can we copy taxonomies from one branch to another branch.
Let us say we have created BranchA with some workarea , inside workarea we created some sites. Now we have created some custom taxonomies for BranchA like Language and some nodes inside Language Taxonomy.
Now We have created another branch , Let us say BranchB. Now We would like to re-use above created Language Taxonomy for BranchB assets.
Here we are having some doubts like can we reuse the BranchA Taxonomies in BranchB by setting some permissions to Branch A.If so how can we do.
or Can we copy paste whole Taxonomies from BranchA to BranchB so that we can avoid the taxonomy recreating. If so how can we do.
Kindly help on above requirement.
Thanks in advance.
Regards,
Nageswar

I had the same requirements to reuse a master taxonomy and tried copying it across multiple branches. The copy was successful but it broke the Manage Taxonomy screen. What I found is each taxonomy is expected to have a unique id so simply copying a Taxonomy across branches will not work.
I also don't like the fact that when querying LSCS you have to use the token value and not the category value entered under the Taxonomy.
I like the idea of the Taxonomy Categories but it's very immature.

The copy might have worked for you...no rocket science in that! But this will break on the manage taxonomies screen. The idea is that each node has a unique id associated with it. You will have to come up with a way to re-author the taxonomy. We have tried changing the node id's ourselves by means of a script and though it did work, i would not recommend doing this.
