Device awareness tags are used in mobile components(which we create using File>New Mobile Component option)
Can i use device awareness tags in non-mobile components (created using File>New component menu)?

I don't know the answer offhand, but the easiest way to find out is to try it yourself.
We did try for some of the tags and they seemed to work.
But that didnt assure us its right to do so or not, and if it would not impact us if we choose that as an approach but face any compatibility challenges in future.
Any ideas?

I'd suggest you ask that question to HP support and post the answer here, unless someone else can comment on what they've already been told.
That said, the piece that computes the mobile tags is a post-processing engine, so I don't see why that wouldn't apply universally.
