LCS : Big Picture

Dear All,

Over the last week I have had the joy of installing and configuring TeamSite 7.3.2 with LCS authoring. I am also installing and configuring a run-time environment. While this has been fun and annoyed my wife due to the long hours I am slightly concerned I have lost what I am trying to achieve.

I had this great idea that I could leverage content services as my real-time repository so I could share the content with other systems. While I can completely understand how this will work in production I am slightly concerned this will compromise the experience in the authoring environment.

Maybe it is my lack of understanding but my concern is that if I create a DCR in TeamSite how does it get into LCS ? I am thinking that if I have Livesite page running on TeamSite I want it to function in same way as on production. Sorry for my lack of understanding but I would appreciate peoples input.

LiveSite content services authoring (LSCS - Auth) has its own store and database that acts as a repository for content and metadata published to it. It is backed by IDOL that is a search engine which powers its indexes when you query this service using things like path or metadata queries.
You may take a look at the odbase log when an LSCS deployment is in progress. It will give you a good overview of how an lscs payload is prepared and deployed.

I am facing the same problem , i have Teamsite new installation and just at sea how the whole LSCS is working . Should i normally publish data to livesite and i will be able to run LSCS queries .

If you have the PLC configured correctly, yes. check content.properties and see if lscs is enabled.

We use LSCS and this is my understanding of what is happening.

Content (DCRs, Pages...) may be tagged during the submission process (or file/tag). Those tags are fed into IDOL during the "Publish LiveSite Content" (PLC) workflow.

Your LiveSite component (either in the XSL or in a Java External) you will do a query against the LSCS server to get a list of potential content that matches some criteria.

So for example, if you are build a site that show Widgets, when you are on the "widget A" page you would query LSCS for "all DCRs of type 'product/detail' that are tagged as 'widget A'." That query would give you back (in XML) a list of DCRs and the tags (you can restrict which tags you get back) associated with that DCR. From there you can either ignore or read in the DCR and display the content on the page.

I posted about 6 months (time flies, it may be more than a year ago) an XSL only solution on how to use LSCS to do this.

LSCS needs Idol. Now it includes a small runtime of Idol and not the complete Idol server. You get it when you buy LSCS, but you do not get full Idol capabilities without purchasing Idol standalone - only enough for LSCS to work.
