Error while reading EA

Hi there,

I have a template that reads extended attributes of another file (from a different workarea) and uses them to display some values on the output page.

While doing so, some of my users are not able to read those attributes on some of the files. The output value from the iwextattr -g command shows up as : Lookup of EA NextEA failed, err = 13 failed.

Please note that the same user is able to read attributes from other files in a different directory. Also, a different user (with different group permissions) is able to successfully generate same page with all the attribute values. I checked folder permissions on both the directories and they look same.

Could anybody explain what the error means and what could be possible solution?

Does it not appear obvious that there is a permissions issue somewhere ?

Where ? I do not know. How do you fix ? 1st, start to see if the people have access to the workarea and files in general. That is harder than it seems, because the GUI may allow but the IPL may still not.

If the GUI works, start logging in your IPL. If it logs, then start doing an ls/dir for each folder starting at the root, because it is possible you can only get part of the way to the directory you need.

I went ahead and explicitely set permissions on this folder for the group that this user belongs to, still not able to read.

Is there a way to run iwextattr command through the tpl as some other user? For ex, can I run it as system? Can I impersonate the command while running from tpl?

First thing I would check is to see if the tpl is able to run the iwextattr command from the parent and sub directory.

yes, the tpl is able to run the command on parent directory and a sibling directory of this one but not on this directory

what is iwutild impersonation settings are? that could be the issue.

also try to give 666 permissions temporarily to nail the issue and then work from bottom up

I found out the problem. For some reason, TeamSite is not setting the windows inheritance on the folder structure. For a temporary fix in Prod environment, I am running a CLT(iwaccess) in the tpl to forcibly set windows-inheritance on the file, before reading its attributes. That has solved the problem for now. But need to look for a better way of setting/resetting permissions/inheritance.
