Updating DCRs using script

1) In a new project, we will be required to extract content from all DCRs. Can this extraction of content in WORD or text or any other document be made automatic using script ?

2) This content will be modified by content authors and then it will be put in word document. This content will be divided in different DCRs (Content of one original DCR may generate 3 new DCRs). Can this generation of new DCRs be made automatic using script ?

This is called SMOP, a.k.a.: a Small Matter Of Programming.

What you are asking for is completely custom functionality - and thus they need to be developed in-house for your specific needs, and as such they should be well documented so that they can be maintained over time.

There are numerous libraries (in Perl at least, and I imagine in Java too) that could be used to perform the various operations you appear to need to perform - but again, how you string those operations together is completely custom and something that you would need to design and implement.

I'm not sure I'd take this on without a significant justification - and clearly thought out design. Word is not a structured document in the same way that DCRs, which are XML, are structured documents - so pulling the information from DCRs into Word and then expecting to pull the information out of Word back into DCRs is going to probably require a fair amount of contortions.

I'd suggest making sure you have a clear understanding of the end-goal and potentially re-think the means of implementation.

I am not sure about any sample script availability. I am happy to develop one (if someone is ready to pay for it)

But as Ghoti suggested, re-think about this design. Using Word as an intermediate between old and new DCR is not a good approach.

Maybe you can directly generate the new DCRs from the old and ask authors to update the content directly in new DCRs. But again, what implementation approach to follow, it all depends on your requirements.
