To generate PDF output using XSLT PT

Hi All,

We are presently using TS 7.3.1.0.0 on Windows platform.

We want to generate output file in .pdf and .docx format using XSLT presentation template when Content contributor clicks on "Preview" button and selects the template option at DCR level.

I would like to know what would be the efficient way to implement this functionality.

Any suggestion/input would be most welcome.

You can't. Those are binary file types, which by nature cannot be constructed by a text transformation (which is what XSLT is, in essence). You'll either have to use a TPL with <iw_perl> tags that build the binary content and call to iwpt_output(), or you'll have to write your own CSPTCompiler in Java.

For PDFs you might want to google "xslt to pdf" - which will get you information about things like XSL:FO, Apache FOP, etc. (I haven't used them, I just know they're there).

Similarly, you can google "xslt to docx" and find a number of hits (I haven't needed to do this so I have no idea how well [if] they work, but ...)

If you do get something working, it would be nice if you'd post some details here.
